1. The Service

PDFkitt is a free, browser-based PDF editor. Everything the editor does to your files happens on your own device; we do not receive, store or process your documents. We provide the website, the guides and the software that runs in your browser. We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the Service at any time, and we may release updates that change how it works.

2. Your files and your responsibility

You keep all rights to the documents you edit. Because the Service does not upload or back up your files, you are responsible for keeping your own copies. The editor autosaves work to your browser’s local storage as a convenience, but browser storage can be cleared by you, by your browser or by your operating system, and we cannot recover it. Always keep the original file until you have checked the downloaded result.

You are also responsible for making sure you have the right to edit the documents you open, and that the result of your editing does not break any law, contract or third-party right.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Service to:

• Forge, falsify or alter a document with the intention of deceiving anyone, including altering signed agreements, official records, identification, certificates or financial documents.
• Remove a password, watermark or other protection from a document you are not authorised to change.
• Infringe anyone’s copyright, trademark, privacy or other rights.
• Interfere with the operation of the website, probe it for vulnerabilities without permission, or use automated tools to scrape it or place unusual load on it.
• Reproduce the Service, or a substantial part of it, as your own product.

4. Free service, advertising

The Service is provided free of charge and is supported by advertising. Ads are served by third parties (currently Google AdSense) and are subject to their own terms and privacy practices, described in our privacy policy. We do not endorse advertised products and are not a party to any transaction between you and an advertiser.

5. Intellectual property

The website design, text, guides and the PDFkitt name are ours. The editor is built on open-source software (including pdf.js and pdf-lib) that is used under its respective licences. You may link to any page of the site. You may not copy the guides or other site content for republication without permission, other than short quotations with attribution.

6. No warranty

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. In particular, we do not warrant that the Service will be error-free or uninterrupted, that every PDF will open or render correctly, that edited output will be accepted by any particular software, authority or recipient, or that text edits are a substitute for redaction (they are not: see the features page).

7. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, documents, profits or business, arising out of or in connection with your use of (or inability to use) the Service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Because the Service is free, our total liability for any claim relating to it is limited to the amount you paid to use it, which is nothing. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law.

8. Disclaimer for the guides

The guides and other articles on this site are general information about working with PDF files. They are not legal, financial or professional advice. Whether an edited or electronically signed document is valid for a particular purpose depends on the laws that apply to you and the requirements of whoever receives it; check with them if in doubt.

9. Third-party links

The site links to external websites (for example documentation for the software we use, or browser help pages). We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows when they last changed. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the updated terms.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the country in which the operator of PDFkitt is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and any dispute will be brought in the courts of that country, unless the consumer-protection law of the country where you live gives you the right to bring it elsewhere.
